Cool Photoshop Effect

As you can see, the picture on the top is the same picture as the picture on the bottom but it has a different look to it. In order to do this:

1. Go to the layers palette, right click on the background layer, click on duplicate layer, and click okay.

2. Next, go to the top of the screen and click on image, go down to adjustments, and click on desaturate.

• This allows all of the color to be removed from the photo.

3. After that,  make a copy of the layer you were just working with the same way you did the first time.
4. Dealing with this new layer, go back up to the image menu at the top of the screen and scroll down to adjustments again. Then click on invert. 

• This causes the light areas of the photo to be dark and the dark areas of the photo to be dark.

5. Still dealing with this layer, change the blend mode located in the top left corner of the layer panel from normal to color dodge.

• This should make most of the photo look completely white.

6. After this , go up to the filter menu at the top of the screen and select other and then select minimum. Then make sure the radius is 1 and click okay.

• You should see the same photo but as a sketch.

7. Next, hold down the alt key while going up to layer at the top of the screen and scrolling down to merge visible.
8. Change the blend mode again from normal to multiply and change the opacity to around 65% depending on your opinion it could be different.

• This darkens the lines of the sketch to make it look more detailed.

9. Once again, make a copy of the background layer.
10. Then click on it and drag it to the very top of the layers panel.
11. After that, change the blend mode again from normal to color and opacity to around 50% depending on how you think it looks best.
Then you will get something that looks like my second picture. Hope you enjoyed this!

Advertising Made Easy

I created this advertisement using Photoshop. It was actually fairly simple. The logo located in the bottom right hand corner was created using simply text boxes paintbrushes and a banner shape. This logo is used to represent a fruit market owned and operated by a man named Tom. After creating this logo, I used the select all tool and then copied and pasted it onto a new canvas. Then i had to used the free transfom tool in order to shrink the logo so that it would fit in the corner of the poster. This then helped me to form an advertisement that can be used for just about any time of the year. It is not specific but contains just the right amount of wording and graphics to draw the attention of those who will be viewing the ad. The audience for this advertisement could be anyone who enjoys eating fruit but does not like the rising prices that are insinuated  with the many different types of fruit.

I found the fruit for this poster under the different types of shapes located in Photoshop. I did this using the shape tool that looks like a blob. For each of the different types of fruit I had to make sure the color matched the type of fruit I was using. I then had to use the pencil tool to change certain parts of the fruit so that the stems and the leaves were not the same color as the fruit. This was not too hard because the stems and leaves were small so it did not take up a lot of time. Before I put in the text, I used the swatches to decide what my color scheme would be. I also used the lasso tool to move my fruit around. I did this in order to make the advertisement look more organized. Next, I inserted a text box to say Huge Sale, Save Nove, and 25% off. Then, I changed the background color of the advertisement because I felt that white just was not good at grabbing the audience's attention. After I changed the background, I used the brightness/contrast tool to lighten and sharpen the colors of the advertisement so that the colors did not clash.

As you can see, it is not a complex advertisement. I did this because I wanted to be sure to get the point across. I did not want people to get bored with what I put on the poster. This is why there is some white space on the advertisement. I also only used one font type. I felt that it was the best way to keep my audience focused on what I had to say. I put the logo in the bottom right hand corner because I wanted it to be the last thing that people would see so they would remember where this sale was at.

Fruitful Logo

The purpose of the logo I created is to grab people's attention. That is why I incorporated so many different fruits with so many different colors. I wanted my logo to look organized but dynamic. That is why the fruit is spaced out. I did not want the logo to looked cluttered.

The main reason I chose the colors I did was because I felt that the were the best colors to use to represent the different types of fruit. Usually there would be a methodical reason for using certain colors when making a logo but because fruit already has specific colors, it is difficult to rearrange them. That being said, all of the color I used go pretty well together. I do not think there is any conflicts with the colors I used.

With the grapes there is the use of analogous colors. This means that the colors used are directly across from each other on the color wheel. With the banner that says "Fruit Market" I used the rules for shape. Shapes are considered enclosed objects that can be created by a line or by a color, meaning it can be empty or filled. There is symmetrical balance in the grapes because if you drew a line down the middle going vertically, and folded it in half it would be perfectly overlaying. There is asymmetrical balance in the banana. This is true because the banana would not be even if it was folded in half either way.

Now You See it...

Many people perceive the ordinary human body to be that of the super models seen in magazines and on television advertisements but that is not the way any real person actually looks. In fact, there is a lot of work done to that picture before it is published in order to make the picture "perfect". As shown in the above picture, I have made it look as if my face is on Vanessa Hudgens' head. As you can see, the skin complexion is completely different.

I feel that the edited picture looks nothing like the original. Considering the edited picture contains only my face from my eyebrows to my bottom lip, it does not look like me. The only things that look the same are the smile and the nose shape. Every other aspect of the picture was edited to make the two pictures come together as one. I added color on my eyelids and my cheek bones to add eyeshadow and blush.

As I was completing this task, I realized just how much work is put into making pictures look absolutely perfect before being published in magazines and on advertisements. I used to think that all famous people were flawless but after this I realize that is not always the case.

Today's view of the perfect body image is highly distorted. Everyone assumes that the perfect body image is what is seen on the cover of magazines because that is what publishers want people to think. There is actually no such thing as the "perfect body image"; it is impossible.

There are a few things that I think I did very well on. One of those things is copying the face over to Vanessa Hudgens. Another thing I think I did well is adding the facial makeup. I feel that these were my two strongest points because I was able to make not only the copied face but also the face makeup look natural, not as if it had been faked.

Although I did some things right, I also think there are some areas that I should have added some extra effort into. One of these parts of the picture that needed extra effort is aligning the facial features to match the second picture. Another thing was getting her original skin complexion to match the edited facial complexion. these were issues because looking at her neck and her chest, you can tell that her facial complexion is different from the rest of her body.

This is one example of how much editting is done to a photo and how the image of the perfect body is not exactly accurate and should therefore not be a goal to reach for anyone.

A day in the life...

A day in the life...consists of pictures taken by me about what life is like in my shoes. I made this collage using the techniques I have learned for photoshop along with the elements of photography that I took into consideration when taking these pictures. In the upper right hand corner of this collage I took into account the element of simplicity in order to draw more focus to my friend. In order to make this picture look better I had to change the contrast using photoshop because the picture was a bit too dark. The picture of staris is in this collage because I walk up and down the stairs on a daily basis. For this picture, I foused mainly on using the rule of thirds in order to make sure that the stairs were the main focus of the photograph. Using photoshop, I changed the picture to black and white instead of leaving it with the natural colors.


The picture in the top left hand corner, used the burn tool in photoshop. The burn tool is used to darken certain areas is an image. I used it to darken areas around the lights at the top. the picture at the bottom right hand corner shows the unity of my friends. I used photoshop to rotate this picture because I feel that it looked a bit crooked and this way it's a little bit straighter. In the bottom right hand corner of the collage, shows two girls at their lockers. This is crucial to my day because I go to my locker at least four times a day. In this picture I used the dodge tool. The dodge tool works like the burn tool except the dodge tool lightens areas instead of darkening them. I used it around the bottom of the lockers because the color was an awkward gradient and it did not seem to fit.


The picture right above that was used in my collage because I see these two girls on a daily basis because both of them are in my homeroom. For this picture, there was several different aspects in the background that were not necessary so using photoshop, I cropped the picture to make the two girls the main focus of the photo. The picture right above that is a picture of chemistry. I am doing chemistry on a daily basis because it is an AP class and therefore requires more work on my part. After I took this picture, I realized that the girl in the picture had a nice smile but it had a yellowish tint to it. I opened the picture in photoshop, and using the lasso tool, I traced around her smile. I then went to the right side of the screen, right clicked the circle that was half white and half black, and clicked on hue/saturatuion. Then i clicked the drop down arrow next to master, clicked on yellows, and changed the saturation to as low as possible, thus whitening her smile.

I feel that downloading music illegally is wrong and whoever does so should be willing to ay the consequences for it. In the same instance, I also think that certain copyright laws are a bit rediculous and should not exist. This mainly pertains to those of a less serious nature such as allowing your friend to listen to a CD that she does not have. If it is something like downloading music off the internet, burning it to a CD, and selling it for profit, then yes laws against that should exist because it can cause people to lose their job if no one buys his or her music. I feel that most of the time, piracy happens without a knowedge of it. Several times, people copy music because they do not realize that it is against the law; they might just be trying to make something nice for a friend. Piracy is such a big deal because people are either clueless or do not realize that they are doing it.

I personally feel that if someone were to use my podcast without my permission i would not be too offended depending on what it was being used for. Now if someone were to use my graphic i would be a little creeped out because there is no reason as to why someone would need a picture of me. I wouldn't be mad but i would be freaked out.

Examples of Piracy

Before I learned about copyright, I assumed that certain ways of downloading or uploading music was legal. After my computer class the other day, I learned just how wrong I was. Copyright laws are a crime in any form. Sometimes, piracy is taken to more lightly than other times but regardless, downloading or uploading music that does not belong to a person, is illegal.
I will be analyzing a news article from the Internet that discusses one instance of copyright infringement.
This article discusses the repercussions of one man's posting on YouTube. He posted a professionally shot video clip that belonged to someone else, on YouTube assuming that it was allowed. the man that posted the video was not getting sued for it, but YouTube itself was being sued by the actual camera man of the video clip.
I do in fact think this is a  fair punishment because the man had no right to steal another man's video even if it was just a clip of it.

Technological Advancements

Hello, my name is Katie. I am new to blogger.com and I have been thinking bout the way technology is used today as well as how it will be used in the future. At this point in time, technology is a very important aspect of our everyday life. Technology is used at job sites, at schools, at home, etc... I know that I, myself, use technology pretty much every day. Technology is basically a necessity for my lifestyle.

I use technology to do homework, stay in touch with my friends, look up information I hadn't previously known, and so on. Just walking into my house, I see several technological devices such as a television, a DVD player, a digital clock, a foot massager, a laptop, and a phone. These are devices that are used on a daily basis in my house. I've been learning about computers since I was in the first grade. It seems to me that if technology continues to grow at the rate that it is currently, then technology will eventually take over the jobs that are occupied by humans right now. I use to consider technology as a good resource for people, but now that I think more about it I've come to realize that it could cause several people to lose their jobs. Especially in factories and what not.

Although certain technological devices are used for the well being of us humans, it can be terrifying to think that something intended to be so useful could in fact ruin the lives of many people. As long as everyone realizes that creating a device that can do his or her job for him or her, could in fact cause him or her to lose his or her job, become broke and as a result, homeless, then they will realize that some technological advancements may be better off undiscovered.
